49ers Sign Veteran QB Brian Hoyer To Two-Year, $12M Deal

Update:

Jason La Canfora reports that QB Brian Hoyer receives a two-year contract from the 49ers worth $12 million and includes $10 million guaranteed to go along with incentives that could push the total value of the contract up $18 million.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that the 49ers are signing veteran QB Brian Hoyer to a contract, reuniting him with Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco.

  • Adam Caplan reports that Hoyer receives a multi-year deal from the 49ers.

Earlier in the day, Rapoport reported that the 49ers and Jets were showing “strong interest” in Hoyer. However, it appears as though Hoyer determined that the 49ers were going to be his best option.

Hoyer is currently the only quarterback under contract with the 49ers, but you can expect them to add some more in free agency and/or the draft.

Hoyer, 31, originally signed on with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan State back in 2009. He spent three years in New England before bouncing around with a few teams including the Steelers, Cardinals and Browns.

The Texans signed him to a two-year contract back in March of 2015 but he lasted just one year in Houston before he was cut. The Bears signed him to a one-year contract shortly after last year’s draft.

In 2016, Hoyer appeared in six games for the Bears and completed 67 percent of his passes for 1,445 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions.

We had him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
