49ers TE Vernon Davis Plans To Hold Out For A New Contract?

 

Mike Freeman of the Bleacher Report has been informed that 49ers TE Vernon Davis intends to hold out for a new contract.

However, Freeman adds that this could change and he isn’t convinced that Davis is willing to push his situation to that point.

Davis has given some mixed signals regarding his intentions in recent months.

The Saints just signed TE Jimmy Graham to a new four-year contract worth $40 million, which includes $21 million guaranteed, so you can bet that other tight ends around the league like Davis have taken note of his contract.

San Francisco has around $5.9 million in available cap space to work with as of now. However, Alex Boone is also prepared to holdout for a new contract and there has been talk that the team are considering a long-term extension for LT Joe Staley.

Davis, 30, signed a six-year, $42.705 million contract that included $23 million guaranteed. He has base salaries of $4.7 million and $4.35 million coming his way over the next two years.

Last year, Davis caught 52 passes for 850 yards receiving and scored 13 touchdowns for the 49ers. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 7 tight end in the league.
