ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the 49ers are trading TE Vernon Davis and a 2016 seventh-round pick to the Broncos in return for a 2016 sixth-rounder and a 2017 sixth-round selection.

“He’s definitely going to help Virgil [Green] and Owen [Daniels] and give us some strength at that position,” HC Gary Kubiak told Sirius XM NFL Radio on Monday.
Recent reports indicated that Davis could be had for the right price, which appears to be two future sixth-round picks. Even Davis, himself, admitted that he could traded in the coming days, after numerous rumors surfaced in the past few weeks that he could be on his way out of San Francisco.
The 49ers season hasn’t gone well over the first eight games of the season, so it really makes a lot of sense for them to get something in return for a player that is likely to depart in free agency next year.
As for Davis, it’s hard to imagine a better landing spot where he can try to get his disappointing season turned around before testing the open market in March. The Broncos could use an athletic tight end to fill a similar role to the one Julius Thomas had in the past few years.
Davis, 31, is in the final year of his six-year, $42.705 million contract that included $23 million guaranteed, and stands to make a base salary of $4.35 million for the 2015 season.
According to Jason Fitzgerald, the Broncos will take on around $2.5 million in salary as part of this trade.
This season, Davis has appeared in six games and caught 18 passes for 194 yards receiving and no touchdowns for the 49ers.
