49ers Unlikely To Ask RB Frank Gore To Take A Pay Cut

49ers GM Trent Baalke seemed to suggest on Friday that it’s unlikely that they would approach RB Frank Gore regarding a pay cut this offseason.

“We’re in good shape from a cap standpoint,” Baalke said, via the Sacramento Bee. “The decision on that – there’s really no decision to be made. We can move forward exactly as is if that’s what we choose to do.

Gore, 30, is entering the final year of his four-year, $25.9 million contract that included $13.5 million guaranteed. He’ll make $6.45 million in 2014 and counts just as much against the team’s salary cap.

Gore has continued to produce for the 49ers since signing that contract. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the past three season while playing every game and 28 total touchdowns over that span.

It will be interesting to see what the 49ers elect to do with him in the coming years, as they are currently without a long-term option on their roster. Marcus Lattimore could, of course, prove to be their guy, but it’s hard to know if he’ll be able to fully return following a devastating knee injury.
