49ers Unlikely To Make A Move Before The Trade Deadline

49ers GM Trent Baalke told reporters on Friday that they are unlikely to make a move before next week’s trade deadline.

San Francisco has long been rumored to be in the market for a wide receiver and some reports have indicated that they have been in contact with the Browns regarding WR Josh Gordon.

Baalke mentioned that getting WRs Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham back will have an impact on their roster decisions.

“It plays a big role and what you can do and what you’re willing to do from a roster standpoint,” Baalke said, via Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. “Because those are two pretty good football players.”

RB LaMichael James recently expressed some frustration regarding his role in the team’ offense, as he has been a healthy scratch the past two weeks. But Baalke laid any speculation that James could be available to rest.

“We’re not interested in trading LaMichael,” Baalke said. “LaMichael’s a key player.

San Francisco has plenty of draft picks to work with next year, so they could always afford to swing a deal for a player who could help them down the stretch. However, draft picks are increasingly valuable, especially when you have a number of core players to lock up at some point in the near future. The affordable draft pick contracts allow you to pay your soon-to-be free agents while filling out roster with young talent.
