49ers Waive DL Datone Jones

The San Francisco 49ers announced that they’ve waived veteran DL Datone Jones on Tuesday.

This could be to make room for DL Tank Carradine, who is expected to return from injured reserve.

Jones, 26, was taken with the No. 26 overall pick back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.71 million rookie contract that included a base salary of $1 million for the 2016 season.

Last year, the Packers declined to pick up Jones’ fifth-year option that would have run them $8 million for the 2017 season.

Minnesota signed him to a one-year, $3.75 million deal back in March but he was, unfortunately, placed on injured reserve and later released with a settlement. After a brief stint with the Lions, Jones signed on with the 49ers a month ago.

In 2017, Jones has appeared in three games and recorded six tackles and no sacks.
