49ers Waive RB Mike Davis

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the 49ers have placed RB Mike Davis on waivers Thursday after they were unable to trade him during the draft. Rapoport adds that Davis is expected to draw “real interest” as a free agent.

If there’s as much interest as Rapoport expects, it’s possible a team will claim him off of waivers on Friday.

Davis, 24, was taken in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft by the. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2.28 million rookie contract and stands to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2016, Davis appeared in eight games for the 49ers and rushed for 50 yards on 19 carries (2.6 YPC) to go along with three receptions for 25 yards receiving and one touchdown.
