49ers Will Meet With WR Michael Crabtree’s Agent At Combine

49ers GM Trent Baalke said he plans to meet with the agent for free agent WR Michael Crabtree at some point this week regarding a potential contract extension.

NFL teams will be meeting most of their free agents in the coming days, or at least checking in with them, so this shouldn’t come as a much of a surprise.

The general expectation has been that Crabtree will likely test the open market and possibly move on to a new team next year. This is still a good possibility, but it will be interesting to hear if talks pick up between the two parties in the coming weeks.

Crabtree, 27, has played out his six-year, $32 million rookie contract with the 49ers, which included $10,065,000 guaranteed, and will now be an unrestricted free agent.

Last year, Crabtree appeared in all 16 games and caught 68 passes for 698 yards receiving and four touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 95 receiver out of 110 qualifying players.

We have Crabtree listed as the No. 43 player in our Top 75 Free Agents list.

  1. Good Riddens. I’m a Niner fan but Sherman was right he is mediocre at best. I want feel sorry when he leaves . I just hope we get to keep Frank. But I will understand if he leaves. Why spend your last days on this sinking ship ?

  2. Crabtree has never been an elite receiver, never performed as an elite receiver, and cannot be counted on to be an elite receiver when it matters most. Richard Sherman exposed him. He has no character, no class, no integrity, no substance. His personality is abrasive and unrefined. He’s focused on how much he is PAID, and nothing more. He belongs elsewhere, not necessarily in the NFL. IMO, he was paid far more than he was worth. He fakes injury to get out of games, demands the ball at key times to give the impression that he’s elite, and dogs it during the season to keep from getting hurt. Just a sorry individual, who I would not want on my team.

    • Crabtree is not a number 1 receiver, but if the Niners can get him for the same price as Stevie Johnson 6mill, he would be a better option than keeping Johnson.
