49ers WR Jonathan Baldwin Could Be A Cap Casulty

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area takes a quick look at the 49ers cap situation as they prepare for the offseason.

One interesting note from Maiocco is that WR Jonathan Baldwin could be a release candidate as the team tries to free up some additional cap space to address the contracts of some players like QB Colin Kaepernick, as well as some of their impending free agents.

Baldwin, 24, came over from Kansas City in trade for former first-round pick A.J. Jenkins. He is set to make $1.4 million for the 2014 season,  none of which is guaranteed, so the 49ers could turn that into cap space if needed.

Baldwin appeared in just seven games for the 49ers in 2014, catching only three passes for 28 yards. Even as a free agent, it would be hard to imagine him finding a lot of interest given how things have played out since the Chiefs used their No. 26 overall pick on him back in 2011.
