NFL Rumors: Matt Hasselbeck Back In Seattle?

Mike Sando of ESPN.com reports that Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell actually called Matt Hasselbeck during the temporary lifting of the lockout in an attempt to reassure the teams interest in retaining for the upcoming season.

The two sides had been reported to be close to reaching a deal before the NFL imposed a lockout but they were not able to come to an agreement. Seattle passed on drafting a quarterback so they are in serious need of player that can help them compete in a winnable NFC West and Hasselbeck has shown that he can do that.

Hasselbeck will have other options in free agency. The Titans, Cardinals, Dolphins, and Redskins could all be options for him depending on how things play out. Tennessee did draft a quarterback but they’ve said that they would like to bring in a veteran to pair with Jake Locker instead of throwing him into the fire come week 1.

As of now, Charlie Whitehurst remains the Seahawks quarterback so you can expect Seattle to actively pursue an alternative as soon as free agency is open.
