Jets, Ravens, & 49ers Would Have Taken Bruce Irvin In The First-Round

Rob Rang of CBS Sports reports that the 49ers, Jets, and Ravens would all have taken West Virginia DE/OLB Bruce Irvin in the first round had he been available to them.

The fact that the Seahawks chose to take him at No. 15 overall came as a real surprise, but the fact that a number of teams were just as high on him makes you think that there was something obviously missing in regards to the consensus opinion of this kid. Irvin looked great at the combine and probably even better during individual workouts, but the concerns are there. He looks to be a one-dimensional, pass rusher that may struggle to play defensive end at the next level. On top of that, his game isn’t suited to play the run all that well, so Pete Carroll will have to help him develop in a few areas before he’s able to live up to where he was taken in this year’s draft.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, seven NFL teams had West Virginia defensive end Bruce Irvin rated as a top-15 pick in this year’s draft.

The Seattle Seahawks would up taking him with the No. 15 overall pick, much to the surprise of many.

Obviously, this comes as a surprise to us considering that he had him rated as #82 best available player. This had a lot to do with the fact he was recently arrested and figures to be a one-dimensional player at the next level. Now, I’ll admit that a pass rusher is a huge premium nowadays, but it will be interesting to see how they use him because he figures to see a limited number of downs based on his skill set.
