Broncos Place TE A.J. Derby On I.R. After Clearing Waivers

The Denver Broncos officially placed TE A.J. Derby on injured reserve after passing through waivers unclaimed on Monday.

Derby, 26, is a former sixth-round pick of the Patriots back in 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $2,392,052 rookie contract and set to make a base salary of $615,000 for the 2017 season.

Derby was waived with an injury designation during the 2015 preseason and later reverted to the Patriots’ injured reserve list.

New England wound up trading him to the Broncos for a 2017 fifth-round pick after appearing in four games for the Patriots.

So far this season, Derby appeared in nine games and recorded 19 receptions for 224 yards receiving, two touchdowns, and lost one fumble.
