Report: “Several Teams” Have Shown Interest In Trading For Redskins QB Kirk Cousins

Update:

Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports that “several teams” are showing interest in Redskins backup QB Kirk Cousins.

However, Maske adds that remains unclear whether or not these teams are willing to meed the Redskins’ asking price for Cousins.

According to Maske’s source, Washington is “adamant” that they want a second-round pick in return for Cousins. The source added that he’s skeptical that a deal will get done.

We’ll have more regarding a potential Cousins-trade as the news is available.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, there is still a chance that the Redskins could trade QB Kirk Cousins at some point this weekend.

  • La Canfora mentions that the Browns were willing to trade a “mid-round pick” for him.
  • La Canfora adds that the two sides haven’t had any contact since they first discussed the idea, but he adds that talks could always pick up.

This comes shortly after Redskins GM Bruce Allen told reporters this week that they have had “no discussions” with other teams trading Cousins, so it’s probably wise to not put too much stock in this idea.

John Keim of ESPN.com mentioned a few days ago he recently spoke with an NFL executive who believes the Redskins would be able to secure a third-round pick “at most” in return for Cousins.

Keim’s source added this year’s quarterback class is decent enough that teams won’t need to trade for a quarterback unless they believe he’s capable of being starter for them.

Cousins has consistently been linked to the Browns given that they hired former Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan to run their offense. However, it appears as though the Browns have their focus elsewhere given that they have worked out nearly every quarterback prospect and signed veterans Vince Young and Tyler Thigpen to contracts.

Cousins, 25, appeared in five games for the Redskins last year and completed 52.3 percent of his passes for 854 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions.

He started Washington’s final three games of the season after the team elected to bench Robert Griffin III, but they wound up losing all three contests.
