A Decision Regarding Alex Smith Could Be Coming Soon

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that people around the league believe the 49ers will make a decision regarding Alex Smith‘s future  “well before” April 1st.

That’s the date in which Smith’s $7.5 million salary for the 2013 season becomes guaranteed if he’s still on their roster.

Schefter adds that San Francisco wouldn’t owe Smith anything if he’s traded by March 14th and only have to pay him a $1 million roster bonus if they were to release him by then.

Schefter mentions that the Chiefs, Eagles and Bills could all be speculative options for Smith.
