Dan Pompei of the Bleacher Report has spoken with league “insiders” who have predicted that there will be a “flurry of trade activity” towards the end of the first round.
Teams who pass on quarterbacks at the top of the draft are expected to try to move back into round one for whoever happens to be available at that point in the draft, according to Pompei.
Pompei mentions that a team picking late in round one already has received multiple phone calls about a potential deal.
Another possibility to keep an eye one, according to Pompei, is a team possibly moving up for Ohio State RB Carlos Hyde.
A few teams Pompei has spoken to see Hyde as the “best prospect at the position.”
With the Browns sitting at No. 26 overall, trades could begin with the Packers who hold the No. 21 overall pick, depending on what quarterbacks are available. However, teams like the Chiefs, Bengals and Chargers appear to be in prime position for a potential trade as they are three picks right in front of Cleveland.
If teams do end up passing on quarterbacks in the first ten picks or so, it seems likely that the backend of round one should be extremely interesting as teams maneuver for quarterbacks.
