Aaron Rodgers Says Packers Should Re-Sign WR Randall Cobb

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers plainly stated on his ESPN Milwaukee radio show that it is “important” for the Packers to re-sign impending free agent WR Randall Cobb.

Rodgers praised Cobb, adding that he is a “great teammate“, “a developing leader” and someone who exemplifies “what it means to be a Packer.”

Green Bay has been employing Cobb in a variety of different positions and formations, moving the shifty wideout around the field.  Accordingly, he has really established himself as a key cog in one of the league’s best offenses.

Chris Wesseling of NFL.com expects that Cobb’s camp will look to the 5-year $43 million extension signed by Giants WR Victor Cruz in 2013 as a barometer.

It seems very possible that Cobb could receive an even more lucrative deal than the one signed by Cruz. He is still just 24, and Pro Football Focus ranks him as the No. 18 wide receiver.

Cobb has 76 receptions this season for 1,076 yards and ten touchdowns.

We have him at No. 9 in our latest Top 25-2015 NFL Free Agents.

  1. They absolutely need to get this done. Not a Packers fan at all but a huge part of their success (not tha I don’t think they would still have success if they did not re-sign him) is they essentially have 2 #1 WR. They are both a huge threat and when one is being doubled, it leaves the other in single coverage to burn the secondary.
