Aaron Rodgers Out For Week 15

Update:

The Green Bay Packers have announced that QB Aaron Rodgers is out for Week 15’s game against the Cowboys.

HC Mike McCarthy told reporters on Friday that Matt Flynn will again be their starting quarterback this weekend after he put together his best week of practice.

McCarthy added that Rodgers “feels like he’s ready to play,” but after talking to Dr. Patrick McKenzie, they felt this was the right decision.

Rodgers actually progressed this week, but it appears as though the Packers are sticking by their conservative ways when it comes to their star players.

Once again, Green Bay’s season rests firmly on the shoulder of Flynn.

Josina Anderson of ESPN spoke with a few Packers players who mentioned that QB Aaron Rodgers took reps with the first-team offense on Wednesday.

Packers LT David Bakhtiari added that Rodgers was even calling plays while TE Andrew Quarless estimated that Rodgers participated “in a little less than half of the reps in a team period.”

This is the first encouraging sign regarding Rodgers’ status for Week 15, although he still needs to be medically cleared to play, according to HC Mike McCarthy.

Packers HC Mike McCarthy told reporters on Wednesday that QB Aaron Rodgers still hasn’t been medically cleared to return.

Aaron Rodgers practiced today in a limited fashion. We’ll see how he is tomorrow,” “McCarthy said. “Aaron still is not medically cleared. Important to stay in tune with that.

“Aaron is obviously very important to our organization, face of the franchise,” McCarthy added. “Won’t play until he’s medically cleared.”

Rodgers put in a limited practice on Wednesday, but the expects to see how he is doing on Thursday before making an official decision regarding their starting quarterback for Week 15’s game against the Cowboys.

All signs point to Matt Flynn getting another start this weekend. We’ll have more as the news is available.

Aaron Rodgers mentioned during his weekly interview with ESPN Milwaukee that he was in pain while practicing last Wednesday.

“I shouldn’t be having pain doing simple movements,” said Rodgers, per Jason Wilde. “I’m going to practice tomorrow and try to do things I couldn’t do last week without pain. Lot of variables.”

The scan last week did not show healing. We would need different results this week in order to play this week.”

Rodgers added that even doing things like handing the ball off caused him some discomfort last week, which really isn’t a very good sign that he’ll be able to return in time for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys.

Scan and discomfort made me know I was wasn’t ready. Was trying to push it to come back before science says is possible,” said Rodgers. “You don’t see people coming back in four or five weeks from this injury. It was tough not to be out there.”

While there has been speculation that Rodgers could be shut down for the rest of the year, he said that he didn’t want to get that far ahead. According to Rodgers, he wouldn’t need a lot of reps to play, but we’ll have to see what the tests show on Wednesday.

Packers HC Mike McCarthy told reporters on Monday that QB Aaron Rodgers has yet to be medically cleared.

According to McCarthy, Rodgers will work out on Tuesday and be re-evaluated by Dr. Patrick McKenzie on Wednesday.

There is still a chance he could return for Week 15’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, but he will need to some positives signs regarding his fractured collarbone.

Matt Flynn was able to end Green Bay’s streak of five games without a win this past weekend, but the Cowboys will be a much harder task for Flynn, especially with Eddie Lacy dealing with a sprained ankle.

We’ll have more regarding Rodgers as the news is available.
