Adrian Peterson Planning To Return For 2018 Season

Following the news from Thursday night that the Cardinals are placing RB Adrian Peterson on injured reserve with a neck injury, he released a statement to Josina Anderson in which he says he plans to return for the 2018 season.

“The good news is my neck injury doesn’t require surgery, but I’m told by Dr. Robert Watkins that the best thing for me is just more rest than the length of the season. Obviously, I’m disappointed about going on IR when my body is still able to produce but I look forward to returning completely healthy for another season in 2018. I’m grateful for the opportunity that the Arizona Cardinals have given me to show that I can still contribute on an NFL team.”

It will be interesting to see if the Cardinals are willing to bring Peterson back next year or elect to take the cap space and move in a new direction at running back, considering that they will have David Johnson back next year.

Peterson, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2007. After 10 seasons in Minnesota, Peterson signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the Saints and stands to make base salaries of $1 million and $1.05 million over the next two years.

The Saints elected to trade Peterson to the Cardinals before this year’s deadline after things didn’t go as expected in New Orleans. The Saints will receive a conditional 2018 sixth-round pick from the Cardinals for Peterson.

In 2017, Peterson appeared in 10 games for the Saints and Cardinals and rushed for 529 yards on 156 carries (3.4 YPC) to go along with 11 receptions for 70 yards receiving and two total touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Peterson as the news is available.
