Adrian Peterson’s Agent Wants Vikings To Offer A Contract Extension

Ben Dogra, the agent for Adrian Peterson, appears to have changed his tone regarding his clients future with the Vikings.

The first round of the draft passes without any suggestion at all that the Vikings were willing to trade Peterson, so it appears as though he’ll be on their roster at the start of the 2015 season.

Dogra had been pushing for the Vikings to consider trading his client, but it sounds like he would now prefer to them to offer Peterson a new contract.

One of the things that I appreciate with the Vikings is their resolve to say ‘we’re not trading him,’” Dogra told USA Today. “That tells me they value him not only as a football player, but what he’s done for the organization. I actually, as an agent, not only appreciate it — I accept it. But actions speak louder than words. If that’s going to happen, and you want to keep him, then show him a commitment to make him retire as a Viking. And I haven’t had that solution.”

There was talk that if the Vikings wanted to retain Peterson, they may have to consider guaranteeing a portion of his contract. However, outside of holding out, Peterson’s camp really doesn’t have all that much leverage in this situation.

Peterson, 30, still has another three years remaining on his seven-year, $96 million contract that included $36 million guaranteed. Over the next three years, Peterson stands to make base salaries of $12.75 million (2015), $14.75 million (2016), and $16.75 million (2017).

As for his cap figures, the Vikings are looking at $15.4 million (2015), $15 million (2016), and $17 million (2017).

Peterson appeared in just one game for the Vikings and ran for 75 yards on 21 carries (3.6 YPC) while adding two receptions for 18 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding a Peterson and the Vikings as the news is available.
