AFC East Notes: Bills, Dolphins, Patriots

  • Bills GM Brandon Beane stressed the importance of finding a true franchise quarterback on Monday: “You got to have a franchise quarterback. That’s one of the main jobs of a GM. It’s a quarterback league. I’ll say it every time: you got to have one.” (Mike Rodak)
  • As for trading up to get a quarterback, Beane explained that it obviously takes a team willing to move back to make it happen: “I know everybody assumes we’re trading up. Even if I wanted to trade up — I know the guy and what it takes — it takes a partner to be able to move up.”(Mike Rodak)
  • Beane added that they’ve met with all of the quarterback prospects on their draft board: “We have met with all the quarterbacks on our board at some point in the draft process. They’re all great young men and there’s a reason they’re being talked about.”
  • Regarding retired(?) G Richie Incognito, Beane said: “He’s on the reserve/retired list. He would have to go to the commissioner and request to be reinstated.” (Vic Carucci)
  • Bills HC Sean McDermott said Monday the team is “satisfied” with WR Zay Jones after speaking to him recently regarding the crazy incident that took place a few weeks ago: “We all agree we need to move forward, and I’m excited about the future for Zay.” (Mike Rodak)

  • The Miami Dolphins will sign WR Chris Chambers, OL Vernon Carey, DE Jeff Cross, LB A.J. Duhe, DT Paul Soliai and P Brandon Fields to ceremonial one-day contracts on Friday. (Armando Salguero)
  • Temple OT Cole Boozer has an official visit with the Dolphins on Monday. (Tony Pauline)

  • Jeff Darlington reports that even after Patriots QB Tom Brady returns from Qatar, he does not anticipate Brady will be a regular participant in team’s offseason program.
  • Instead, Darlington says that Brady plans to spend more time with family and body coach Alex Guerrero.
  • It’s worth mentioning that Brady missed parts of the Patriots’ offseason program in 2008, 2009 and 2010 so this is not unprecedented.
  • Ben Volin reports that the Patriots are hosting UCLA OT Kolton Miller Monday for a pre-draft visit.
  • USC RB Ronald Jones is visiting with the Patriots Monday. (Ian Rapoport)
