AFC East Notes: Bills, Jets, Patriots

Bills

  • Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News writes that there’s no reason to be concerned that first-round QB Josh Allen is among the last draft picks to sign their rookie contracts. Typically in these situations, the hang up is related to contract language and the structure of the deal in terms of bonus payments.
  • Skurski mentions that the Bills’ defense is clearly further along than the offense right now.
  • At center, Skurski notes that Russell Bodine may have a bit of an edge over Ryan Groy at this point, given that he got two days’ worth of starting reps during the mandatory minicamp while Groy got just one.
  • According to Skurski, “all signs point to” the Bills either trading for or signing a wide receiver at some point.

Jets

Jets S Jamal Adams mentioned that he believes their secondary can be “something special” with the addition of CB Trumaine Johnson this offseason.

“I believe in us, man, simple as that,” Adams said, via the New York Post. “I believe in us in that room. We work hard. Everybody works hard in the National Football League, but I think that we have something special about this group.”

Patriots

Patriots QB Tom Brady admitted during an interview with Oprah Winfrey that he sees the end to his career coming “sooner rather than later.”

“I think about it more now than I used to,” Brady said, via the Boston Herald. “I think I’m seeing there’s definitely an end coming sooner, rather than later.

Brady did, however, add that “as long as [he’s] still loving it,” he plans to continue playing.

As long as I’m still loving it,” Brady said. “As long as I’m loving the training and the preparation and willing to make the commitment. But it’s also, I think what I alluded to a lot in the [Tom vs. Time] docu-series, there’s other things happening in my life, too. I do have kids that I love, and I don’t want to be a dad that’s not there, driving my kids to their games . . . my kids have brought a great perspective in my life. Kids just want the attention. You better be there. And be available to them.”
