AFC East Notes: Dolphins, Jets, Patriots

Dolphins

  • Ohio State CB Denzel Ward and Auburn G Braden Smith are visiting with the Dolphins. (Barry Jackson)
  • According to Barry Jackson, Georgia RB Sony Michel had an Adidas commitment that came up, which led to his visit with the Dolphins being rescheduled for Monday.
  • Adam Beasley reports that Southeast Missouri State OLB Kendall Donnerson is “very much” on the Dolphins’ radar.
  • Bethune-Cookman WR Jawill Davis is working out at the Dolphins’ local day. (Aaron Wilson)
  • Florida International quarterback Alex McGough is working out for the Dolphins at their local prospect day. (Aaron Wison)

Jets

  • Rich Cimini of ESPN predicts that the Jets will take Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield at No. 3 overall.
  • If the Jets come away from round one with Mayfield, Cimini says it’s still “unrealistic” for him to be their Week 1 starter and a more realistic scenario is for New York to open the season with Josh McCown as their starting quarterback.
  • Cimini can see the Jets making WR Jermaine Kearse available for trade during the draft.

Patriots

  • Mike Reiss of ESPN mentions that based on the old Draft Value Chart, the Patriots No. 23 and No. 31 overall picks are worth a combined 1,3600 points, which would be enough to trade up to No. 9 overall for a player.
  • For what it’s worth, Reiss considers a trade up into the Top 10 to be “unlikely” for New England.
  • Reiss’ sense is that the Patriots are likely higher on South Carolina TE Hayden Hurst than Dallas Goedert and if New England is to use a first-round pick on a tight end, then they’re going to want a player they believe can equally contribute as a receiver and a blocker.
