AFC Notes: Bengals, Chiefs, Raiders, Steelers

Bengals

Bengals RT Jake Fisher explained that he’s increasing offseason workouts after undergoing a corrective surgical procedure to address an irregular heartbeat.

I’ve been working with lighter ones, but now I’m back to off-season workouts,” Fisher said, via Bengals.com. “You have to be conscious of it. You have to monitor it. But you still have to live life. You can’t let it cripple you in any way.

Chiefs

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the Chiefs also considered trading other defensive backs including S Steven Nelson.
  • Rapoport says that CB Marcus Peters was not someone ownership was willing to pay as part of a long-term deal.

Raiders

  • Mike Florio points out that it won’t be a surprise if the Raiders decide to move on from veteran RB Marshawn Lynch in the next three weeks.
  • Lynch is owed a $1 million roster bonus on March 18. However, Florio says it’s possible Oakland could still pay him the bonus and buy themselves some time to evaluate their situation at running back.
  • Should Lynch still be on the Raiders’ roster at the start of the regular season, he stands to make a base salary of $4 million to go along with $46,875 in per-game active roster bonuses and a $250,000 workout bonus for a total of $5.25 million.

Steelers

  • According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Steelers free-agent OT Chris Hubbard is likely to get a “quality contract” as an unrestricted free agent and get a starting role on another team.
  • Fowler adds that Hubbard set himself up well for a good contract this offseason after performing well in 10 starts after filling in for RT Marcus Gilbert.
  • A recent report mentioned that the Dolphins plan to release veteran ILB Lawrence Timmons this offseason.
  • Fowler mentions that he could offer the Steelers some familiarity but has a similar skill set to Vince Williams. Even if the Steelers were to sign Timmons, Fowler thinks they should look for a sideline-to-sideline inside linebacker in the draft.
