AFC Notes: Bengals, Colts, Jets

Bengals

Veteran TE Tyler Eifert elected to re-sign a one-year contract with the Bengals and put himself in position to test the open market next year after reestablishing his value.

Eifert tells Sirius XM Radio that he’s excited to be back in Cincinnati and understands that his health issues impacted his market.

“I am super excited to be back and I let the organization and Coach Lewis know that I wanted to come back,” Eifert said. “Obviously, I have been hurt a lot but I know and pretty much everyone knows that when I am healthy…I can be a big factor.”

Colts

Colts GM Chris Ballard explained that they looked into some potential free agent additions, but felt they weren’t at the point where the salaries matched what they were looking to pay at this point.

“Look, one of our goals — we looked in free agency, and we just didn’t feel like we were at a point to where we wanted to add some of the guys at the price that they were at,” Ballard said, via Colts.com. “And we need to add some young talent to this roster. So the ability to have seven players here in the next two years that are all going to be first- and second-round picks was attractive to us.”

  • Peter King writes that “there’s a good chance the Colts aren’t done trading yet” despite trading down three spots with the Jets last weekend. King thinks the Colts could trade down the board again before next months draft.
  • King says he would trade back with the Bills if he was in GM Chris Ballard’s position and see if they’ll part with No. 53 and No. 96 overall.

Jets

  • Manish Mehta reports that the Jets “coveted” OLB Barkevious Mingo and DL DaQuan Jones but lost out on both players to the Seahawks and Titans respectively.
  • Mehta also reports that the Jets targeted RB Jerick McKinnon last week before it became clear that the 49ers were set on offering him a lot of money to come to San Francisco.
