AFC Notes: Bills, Browns, Jets, Texans

Bills

  • Bills rookie CB Tre’Davious White cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol on Thursday and is medically cleared for Sunday’s game.
  • Regarding the hit he took from Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski, White said: “I’m glad I had my mouthpiece in. I probably could’ve bit my tongue off. I bit my lip pretty bad. Terrible headache. It is what it is. He did what he wanted to do.” (Mike Rodak)
  • White also said of Gronkowski: “The guy did what he wanted to do. He is what he did. Dirty shot, so what does that make him? Dirty player. Simple.” (Mike Rodak)
  • As of Thursday, White says he has not heard from Gronkowski since the hit and his apology does not mean anything to him.

Browns

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Browns chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta and VP of player personnel Andrew Berry are expected to remain in place, even though they’re in the process of hiring a new GM.

  • According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, some in league circles still believe the Browns could still fire HC Hue Jackson if the team finishes the season 0-16, despite the fact that the team announced their commitment to Jackson through the 2018 season on Thursday.
  • Regarding the team’s decision to fire executive VP Sashi Brown on Thursday, Jackson said: “All those things are difficult decisions, Sashi is a good person and heck of a worker, those decisions are made above me, don’t think there’s anything good about that, he was giving it his all.” (Nate Ulrich)
  • Jackson added that he’s appreciative of the support of ownership: “I appreciate Jimmy saying that, my focus in getting the team turned around, I haven’t been able to do that yet.” (Nate Ulrich)
  • According to Jackson, he expects owner Jimmy Haslam to keep him involved in the process of finding their next GM. (Mary Kay Cabot)
  • Jackson added that he doesn’t want to handle roster moves personally, but would like to be in concert with whoever is making these decisions. (Nate Ulrich)
  • Surprisingly enough, Jackson told reporters that he didn’t want to hire an offensive coordinator with a base offense and end up making him the fall guy. Jackson says he’ll possibly hire an offensive coordinator next year. (Mary Kay Cabot)

Jets

  • According to Rich Cimini, Jets WR Robby Anderson failed to finish Thursday’s practice after aggravating a hamstring injury.
  • Jets HC Todd Bowles is hoping it’s not a serious injury for Anderson, but he was still non-committal about Anderson’s status for Week 14.
  • Although, Ian Rapoport reports that Anderson should be okay for this weekend’s game.

Texans

  • Howard Balzer reports that the Texans brought in TE Stevie Donatell for a tryout on Wednesday.
