AFC Notes: Bills, Colts, Jaguars

Bills

Bills HC Sean McDermott confirmed Friday that QB Tyrod Taylor will start next Saturday’s preseason game against the Ravens.

Despite telling reporters after their recent preseason game against the Eagles that they played to “evaluate everything” including the quarterback position, McDermott clarified that he has “all the confidence in the world” in Taylor.

“By no means was that meant to come across that way,” McDermott said, via ESPN.com.

McDermott dodged whether they plan to give rookie QB Nathan Peterman practice time with the first-team offense.

“Like I’ve always said, we always look at everything,” McDermott said. “That goes for every position, not just the quarterback position, but every position. Nate has certainly had a good preseason and training camp, and he’s going to continue to develop and get better. That said, Tyrod is going to start Saturday night, and I expect him to play and play well.”

Colts

  • Stephen Holder says he’s never got the impression the Colts were gonna beat out the Ravens for veteran C Jeremy Zuttah, who reached an agreement on a two-year deal with Baltimore Friday.

Jaguars

  • Tom Pelissero reports that there are no signs of the Jaguars pursuing outside quarterback options as of now.
  • According to Pelissero, it’s also not a foregone conclusion that Blake Bortles has lost the starting quarterback job. Instead, Pelissero says that things are “wide open” at quarterback for Jacksonville.
  • Mike Florio reports that not all of the players for Jacksonville are embracing the team’s new physical practice approach. In fact, at least one player has told Florio that he believes the physically demanding training camp will shorten his career by at least two years.
