AFC Notes: Bills, Colts, Jets

Bills

  • Bills GM Brandon Beane told reporters that he believes WR Anquan Boldin will stay retired and added that they gave him permission to seek a trade. (Mike Rodak)
  • Before the Bills surprisingly traded for WR Kelvin Benjamin (NFLTR), Jeremy Fowler reports that Buffalo actually showed interest in a deal for Steelers WR Martavis Bryant. However, Pittsburgh made it clear that they weren’t moving him.

Colts

Former NFL physician David Chao writes that while there appears no indication that Colts QB Andrew Luck‘s shoulder issues are career-ending, his long-term future is “certainly a concern.

Luck is reportedly seeking more opinions regarding his surgically repaired shoulder after he suffered a setback a few weeks ago. The Colts have already said that he won’t practice this week and it appears as though we’re getting to the point where Indianapolis could shut him down for the year, barring improvement over the next few weeks.

Chao points out that Luck is already well behind the six-to-nine-month recovery timeline for posterior labral repair after he underwent the procedure back in January.

Chao believes Luck’s 2017 season is already and he wouldn’t be surprised if Luck underwent arthroscopic surgery in the coming months to more precisely determine what the issue is with his throwing shoulder.

If multiple specialists can’t agree, then looking inside with a scope can provide the assurance that is needed,” Chao writes. “And if there is something structurally wrong, the sooner that is discovered and fixed, the better, lest it starts to impact next season.

Will Carroll reports that Luck visited multiple doctors and has gotten multiple opinions but “no one agrees what exactly is wrong.” Carroll adds that the Colts want Luck to throw.

Jets

Jets WR Jeremy Kerley said regarding his suspension by the NFL for a PED violation to not “assume anything” and he is still focused on Thursday’s game.

Don’t assume anything, but it’s a league matter and I will leave it up to them,” said Kerley, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.

Regarding his eligibility this week, Kerley said he is unsure if he will be able to play, but he is still preparing to be on the field.

I don’t know. As far as right now, that’s how I’m going into it–I’m ready to play,” he added.
