AFC Notes: Bills, Ravens, Titans

Bills

  • Mike Rodak of ESPN writes that former fourth-round QB Cardale Jones could be the “odd man out” in Buffalo this year.
  • Jones is competing with T.J. Yates and fifth-round pick Nathan Peterman for at most two roster spots this summer but has seen his practice reps limited up to this point.
  • Yates has been working with the second-team offensive while Peterman has been with the third-string unit while Jones wanted from the sidelines.
  • Rodak says that Peterman has a “strong chance” to be the team’s No. 3 quarterback this year and it’s hard to see Jones beating out Yates for the backup job.

Ravens

New Ravens WR Jeremy Maclin explained that “it just felt right” upon meeting with the coaching staff and the players to sign with Baltimore.

When I got a chance to come here and meet all the guys and meet all the coaches, it just felt right,” Maclin said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “With me coming here and what was already here, I felt like this was a team that could definitely win and definitely build something special. From a football standpoint, it made the most sense.

Maclin admitted that hurt a bit to be cut by the Chiefs, but he recognizes that it’s a business and these things happen.

Of course it hurt a little bit, just kind of how it went down and it just being so unexpected,” Maclin said. “But at the same time, it’s a business. You understand how things work. So there was only one choice but to pull it together and get things back on track.

Titans

Titans HC Mike Mularkey said that first-round WR Corey Davis has really stood out for his ability to handle what they’ve asked of him up to this point.

We’ve been the ones that have monitored Corey Davis — we’ve basically told him the plays we wanted him to be in,” Mularkey said, via NFL.com. “Now, we are leaving it up to him. What does he feel comfortable with his body? How much can he do? From what I know it looks like he did everything, and that’s a credit to him.

“He caught a lot of balls today. This is the most reps he’s had since he’s been here, and he was very productive today, in a variety of routes. It was a good day for Corey Davis.”
