AFC Notes: Broncos, Chiefs, Colts, Patriots

Broncos

Broncos HC Vance Joseph pointed out that the team must improve at the quarterback position and they could also make adjustments at offensive line, running back, and defense.

We all understand on how the quarterback position has a direct influence on how your team plays,” Joseph said, via Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post. “Obviously we have to get better there, whoever is going to be the quarterback. That being said, we can get better in a lot of areas, like protecting the quarterback, continuing to run the football better and to play dominant defense. Having a quarterback that can help us become a more efficient offense and help us score more points and not turn the ball over, that can only help us get better. But we have to focus not only on that, but also on other parts of the football team.”

Regarding the futures of RB C.J. Anderson and CB Aqib Talib, Joseph said that they must determine if they are the “best fit” for the team.

“It’s our goal to keep all of our good players, but obviously it’s a business where every year you have to do a self-evaluation of what’s best for our football team,” Joseph said. “If those guys are the best fit for our football them, then they’ll be here. Doing what’s best for the Broncos, it’s John (Elway)’s job and John is going to do a great job at that. We want every player that can help us win football games here. But it’s also a business side that we have to consider.

  • Regarding Talib, Troy Renck could see the 49ers and Cowboys have interest in him if the Broncos elect to move in a different direction.

Chiefs

Chiefs free agent WR Albert Wilson isn’t sure if Kansas City wants him back next year.

“Kansas City knows what I can do,” Wilson said, via Sirius XM NFL Radio. “We’ve built a good relationship over the years. Not sure if they want me back but I showed what I can do on the field.

We have him featured in our Top 100  – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.

Colts

  • Alex Marvez reports that the Colts have hired former Raiders TEs coach Bobby Johnson as their new assistant offensive line coach.

Patriots

Patriots WR Julian Edelman would not put a timetable on his recovery from his torn ACL injury but added that he is still rehabbing.

You never want to put a number on anything,” Edelman said, via Mike Reiss of ESPN. “You put a number on something, you’re feeling great this day [but] you go out and the next day, something swells up, this, that, and then who’s fault is that? Is it the trainer’s fault? Is it the player’s fault? Is it the doctor’s fault? You just say ‘We’re trying to get better each day.’”
