AFC Notes: Broncos, Jets, Steelers

Broncos

Broncos QB Paxton Lynch said he was disappointed by the team’s decision to go with Trevor Siemian as their starting quarterback (NFLTR), but he still plans to be ready in case an opportunity surfaces.

“I am disappointed. I have to be prepared. I believe in myself to be a starter. But coaches’ made the decision,” Lynch said, per Troy Renck of The Denver Channel.

Jets

Jets HC Todd Bowles isn’t sure if veteran RB Matt Forte will be ready in time for the start of the regular season.

“I can’t tell you that right now,” Bowles said Monday, via Rich Cimini of ESPN. “I’ve got to see him out there before I can make that decision.”

Forte has been sidelined for a few weeks now with a hamstring injury, but was able to take part in positional, running and catching drills on Monday.

“If he’s been out a while, he’s probably hurting,” Bowles said. “It’s still day by day. When he can open up full speed, he’ll be out there.”

Steelers

According to Ian Rapoport, Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell is expected to report to the team before the start of next week and sign his franchise tender soon after.

(He’s) expected to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers, not this week but likely at the start or right before the start of next week, which is consistent with his schedule the entire time,” Rapoport said. “This has always been Le’Veon Bell’s plan. Stay home, train in Florida. …Let the Steelers get through the preseason, get through training camp in Latrobe, get back to Pittsburgh, play the three preseason games.

“Then he is set to show up, sign his $12.1 million franchise tender and play for his team. If this all sounds familiar, it’s almost exactly what Eric Berry did with the Kansas City Chiefs last year.

This fits with recent reports.
