AFC Notes: Broncos, Jets, Texans

Broncos

Broncos HC Vance Joseph says he’s proud of QB Chad Kelly and how he’s worked to change his body since entering the NFL.

I’ve been proud of Chad overall,” Joseph said Saturday, via Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic. “He’s been here every day. He’s worked his butt off and . . . he’s changed his body. Last year, he was a little tubby kid. He’s really lean now; he’s eating right; he’s working hard. He’s definitely put the work in, and he’s throwing the ball really well now.”

Kelly actually worked with former Giants QB Phil Simms this offseason.

“I try to use all my resources and try to get ahead, because every day everybody is getting better,” Kelly said of Simms. “If I can take one thing from some guy and another thing from another guy, it’s only going to help me out.”

Jets

  • The Jets brought in veteran OL Byron Bell for a workout on Monday. (NFLTR)
  • According to Calvin Watkins, the Jets are still open to signing Bell to a contract at some point.

Texans

Texans HC Bill O’Brien said during an appearance on “Good Morning Football” that he’s not worried about DE J.J. Watt returning to his prior form.

“Not at all,” O’Brien said, via NFL.com. “When I see him every day, he’s in here early, stays late. He’s doing a lot of great things both on and off the field relative to being able to be back and ready to go. Obviously, we’re not going to rush any of our injured guys. Those guys are right on schedule. J.J.’s doing a great job with his rehab. I see him every single day. I’ve said this time and time again, this is a guy that’s one of the best players to ever play the game.

“I would never bet against J.J Watt. He’s going to be back, he’s going to be at full strength and he’s going to help us win a lot of games.
