AFC Notes: Broncos, Raiders, Texans

Broncos

On Friday, the Broncos informed ILB Brandon Marshall that they will not be picking up his option for the 2019 season.

Marshall says he loved playing for the Broncos and his time in Denver.

“I love the organization, they gave me my first chance to play,” Marshall said, per Mike Klis. “I love all my teammates. I really love city. I felt embraced on and off the field. I’m just sorry I was injured 2 of the last 3 years. … It’s a really great organization so we’ll see what happens.

  • A Broncos source tells Matt Miller of B/R that the decision to trade for QB Joe Flacco won’t prevent them from drafting a quarterback: “We’re going to take the best player on our board when the pick comes up. Period.”

Raiders

Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the Raiders and board that oversees the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum agreed to continue negotiations for the team to continue negotiations about returning for the 2019 season.

As of now, there’s no agreement in place, but executive director Scott McKibben says it’s possible that could change over the next week or so: “I am cautiously optimistic that I believe that we will get a deal done, yes,”

“The next step for me is I will get back to the Raiders, and I will discuss with Marc what exactly we discussed (in closed session),” McKibben said. “Like any other deal or negotiation, we will hammer down to the shorthairs. If we reach a complete and full agreement, then we’ll move forward, do a contract, and at that time, we would have a meeting … where we call people back for a formal approval.”

Texans

Texans WR Keke Coutee dealt with hamstring issues last year, but he says he’s now “100 percent.

“The hamstring is good. I’m still resting a little bit,” Coutee said via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “I’m going to start back training soon, but it’s 100 percent.”

“Staying healthy is the key,” Coutee added. “I’m going to take Year Two and do even more than my rookie year.”
