AFC Notes: Browns, Chargers, Jets, Ravens

Browns

New Browns GM John Dorsey made it clear during his introductory press conference on Friday that finding a quarterback will be their No. 1 priority.

“This is a quarterback-driven league,” Dorsey said, via ESPN.com. “We all know that, and we all know to succeed and go a little bit further and further and further that you need one of those guys.”

Dorsey did, however, say that he likes rookie QB DeShone Kizer.

“I like the rookie quarterback who is here now,” Dorsey said. “Coming out in the draft, we actually brought him up [in Kansas City] as one of the four or five quarterbacks in terms of the 30-player visit last year.”

As for the 2018 quarterback class, Dorsey said: “It is not a bad class.

Chargers

  • The Los Angeles Chargers officially list DT Corey Liuget (toe) and WR Mike Williams (knee) as questionable for Sunday’s game.
  • Williams said that he originally couldn’t put any weight on his injured knee, but was relieved to find out he only suffered a bone bruise and not something more significant: “I really couldn’t put any pressure on it or walk with it. During that time, I was scared.” (Jack Wang)

Jets

  • Rich Cimini mentions that the Jets are projected to have around $80 million of cap space to work with next year and this figure will only grow higher once they begin making some roster cuts.
  • Interestingly enough, New York doesn’t have any major extensions to hand out next year, considering that DL Leonard Williams is still a year away.
  • Cimini believes the Jets have “some degree” of interest in impending free agent QB Kirk Cousins. However, he can’t say they’re willing to get involved in a bidding war for him.
  • Overall, Cimini gets the sense that the Jets would still prefer to find a quarterback in the draft, given that he’ll be cheaper than Cousins and they can develop in the coming years.
