AFC Notes: Browns, Colts, Jaguars

Browns

  • Browns GM John Dorsey said he kept the decision to take No. 1 overall QB Baker Mayfield a “secret outside and within his own building” to get unbiased opinions when discussing the selection with those he trusted. (Peter Schrager)

Colts

Colts GM Chris Ballard said during an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio that QB Andrew Luck has a “bit of a chip on his shoulder to prove some people and naysayers wrong” in his return from shoulder surgery.

“I think he’s got a little bit of a chip on his shoulder to prove some people and naysayers wrong,” Ballard said. “That’s a beautiful thing with a quarterback that I think is top five in this league.

Jaguars

According to Jaguars GM David Caldwell, Louisville QB Lamar Jackson wasn’t a consideration for them at No. 29 overall, despite some speculation that Jacksonville could be a potential landing for him in the lead up to the draft.

“He was not at the time,” Caldwell said, via Pro Football Talk. “We did think very highly as him as a player. With his ability to create and create plays with his feet. We felt like that he was going to eventually be a player — that he could develop into a player that you can win with. That wasn’t the situation that we had for us with the pick at 29. We had some guys that we really coveted that we felt could come in and help us right away this year.”
