AFC Notes: Browns, Dolphins, Patriots

Browns

Browns QB Brock Osweiler declined to say if he would not request a trade from the team now that they plan to start DeShone Kizer at quarterback for their third preseason game.

That’s something I’m going to stay away from,” said Osweiler, via Pat McManamon of ESPN.

Osweiler went on to say that he is focused on being a good teammate and is continuing to prepare for the regular season.

I’ve told you guys all along, I’m always going to just focus on the things that I can control,” Osweiler said. “Right now, that’s being a great teammate, that’s continuing to prepare, be a pro, stay in the playbook and continue to strive to be a better player every day.”

When asked what would have to happen for him to win the job, his response was, “I think that’s a great question for our general manager.

Dolphins

  • Armando Salguero writes that new Dolphins LB Rey Maualuga‘s weight is over 260 pounds and needs to shed down to 250 pounds or so.
  • According to Salguero, Maualuga has conditioning work to do before he can think about practicing.

Patriots

Veteran TE Dwayne Allen admitted it’s been “extremely hard” to pick up the Patriots’ offensive system since he was traded to New England back in March.

“It is extremely hard,” Allen said, via Rich Thompson of the Boston Herald. “I’m not going to sugarcoat it.”

“It is hard but also stimulating and very exciting,” Allen said. “It is one of those things that where you pray for something so long, and when it comes, you can’t cry because it’s harder than you thought it was going to be.

“You have to accept that and be grateful for it.
