AFC Notes: Browns, Ravens, Texans

Browns

  • Jay Glazer reported on FOX NFL Sunday that Gregg Williams hasn’t locked up the Browns’ head-coaching search.
  • Glazer says that if the Browns make the playoffs, Williams has a legitimate shot at keeping the job.
  • According to Glazer, Freddie Kitchens has locked up the offensive coordinator job, which allows the Browns to focus on hiring the best overall coach, as opposed to focusing on an offensive-minded head coach.

Ravens

  • Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that Ravens DC Don “Wink” Martindale is drawing interest as a head-coaching candidate around the NFL.
  • La Canfora says that with HC John Harbaugh’s future in Baltimore still in limbo, Martindale could garner consideration in Baltimore should owner Steve Bisciotti opt not to give Harbaugh a lucrative extension and move on after this season.
  • Sources have told La Canfora that other NFL position coaches are expressing interest in joining any potential Martindale staff.

Texans

  • Ian Rapoport reports Texans RB Lamar Miller’s ankle injury isn’t serious and there’s a chance he’ll be able to return next week.
  • Texans HC Bill O’Brien said after Thursday’s game that he thinks Miller will be alright: “I think he’ll be alright. I don’t think it’s major. But we’ll see when we get back to Houston.” (Drew Dougherty)
