AFC Notes: Browns, Steelers, Texans

Browns

Browns interim HC Gregg Williams said it was not his decision to name Freddie Kitchens their new offensive coordinator.

That was done. No. That was done. That was not me. That was everybody else,” said Williams, via Toni Grossi.

Browns G Joel Bitonio said that he did not “get a sense” of any discord between former HC Hue Jackson and OC Todd Haley. However, he also pointed out that Jackson “was never” vocal during offensive meetings.

As a player, we didn’t really get a sense of it,’’ Bitonio said, via Mary Kay Cabot. “At least for me, there was never any fighting on the field or anything like that. It was just business as usual. Todd ran the offensive meetings. Coach Jackson would sit in on them, but he was never really a voice in them. He ran his team meetings and had his input on the field if something looked off, but there was never any discord that we noticed as players.”

Steelers

Ravens DC Wink Martindale said Thursday that there are stats that suggest the Steelers may actually be better off without RB Le’Veon Bell than with him.
There are a lot of stats [since 2015] that the Steelers are actually better without him,” Martindale said, via ESPN.com. “That might be why he’s riding a jet ski down in Miami right now.”

Texans

  • Texans CB Aaron Colvin is feeling better and excited to be back from an ankle injury, and while he’s not a lock to return Sunday, he is optimistic about he’ll feel better after the upcoming bye week. (Aaron Wilson)
