AFC Notes: Chargers, Dolphins, Ravens

Chargers

Chargers GM Tom Telesco acknowledged during an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio that they need to at least begin the process of planning for life after QB Philip Rivers.

“We know he’s not going to play 10 more years,” Telesco said. “We have to have a plan moving forward . . . but that right moment, right guy, right time hasn’t quite gotten there yet for us.

Telesco also took the blake for the team’s kicking issues last season and said they’ll need to find a solution this time around.

“We’ll get that fixed,” Telesco said, via the Sporting News. “That was largely my fault. We just didn’t do a very good job managing that situation.”

It’s worth mentioning that the Chargers signed K Roberto Aguayo to a futures contract a few weeks ago. (NFLTR)

Dolphins

Dolphins executive VP Mike Tannenbaum was noncommittal about picking up WR DeVante Parker‘s fifth option in the coming months.

“DeVante is another guy we drafted here,” Tannenbaum said this week, via Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post. “We want to see him reach his potential. I know it’s important to him. Obviously, he’s dealt with injuries, which is I’m sure as frustrating to him as it is to us. We’re going to keep working with him and try to get him to be the best player he can be. Obviously he has a big ceiling and a lot of ability. He works hard at it. Like I said, I think it’s important to him. In terms of where we’ll go with his contract and his option, we have plenty of time to make that decision, so that’s a ways down the road.

Again, we’ll look at it as the offseason evolves and where that goes,” Tannenbaum said. “Again, we like DeVante as a person. We see his ability and, again, hope that he can grow and develop to reach his potential.

Ravens

The lawyer for Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey, who was recently arrested for third-degree robbery (NFLTR), says that a lot of the allegations against his client “simply are not true.”

“Marlon has 11 million reasons not to steal a . . . phone charger,” Paul Patterson said, via the Baltimore Sun. “Marlon has not had an opportunity to tell his side of the story.

“The Uber driver makes a lot of allegations in that report that simply are not true. Fortunately for Marlon, we have eyewitnesses who are willing to testify about what accurately transpired between Marlon and the Uber driver.
