AFC Notes: Chargers, Ravens, Titans

Chargers

Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt believes they have more depth at the running back position than some may think, despite the loss of Danny Woodhead.

“I’d say we are a lot deeper at that position,” Whisehnunt said, via ESPN.com. “I see a lot of guys that are getting better. Andre Williams is a guy that has made giant steps from where he was last year on our roster. I know he played [a] strong last game, but he’s even gotten better.

“I think there’s competition at that position, and that’s important. It’s good to see B.O. [Branden Oliver] back out there practicing. He’s performed for us when he hasn’t been nicked, so that’s exciting. Melvin’s been really doing a great job for us. It’s good to see him back, and hopefully build off what he started last year. We’ll see in camp how that all shakes out, but it’s good to have these guys really compete the way they are.

Ravens

Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti mentioned that they have a lot of confidence in Chris Moore to be their No. 4 receiver this year.

“We have a lot of confidence in Chris Moore to be our fourth wideout and let the competition begin with the fifth and sixth wideout,” Bisciotti said, via the Baltimore Sun.

Mike Wallace, Breshad Perriman, and Jeremy Maclin are clearly the team’s top-three options, which leaves Michael Campanaro, Chris Matthews, Keenan Reynolds, Kenny Bell, Tim White, Tim Patrick, Aaron Bailey, C.J. Board and Quincy Adeboyejo competing for one or two spots, according to Jeff Zrebiec.

Zrebiec considers Campanaro and Matthews as the two favorites for the final spot/spots.

Titans

The Tennessee Titans officially announced that they’ve signed WR Eric Decker to a one-year contract on Monday.

According to Decker, he was looking for the right fit and ultimately came away thinking that the Titans were his best option.

“It was kind of a perfect storm,” Decker said, via TitansOnline. “You only get so many years to play this game, and I wanted to find the right fit. I wanted to come to a place where I can help out, and this is home.

“There were a lot of factors. This is a team on the rise, and I like the coaching staff, the GM, and the philosophy upstairs. I like the quarterback, the locker room and the mentality. When I talked to the GM and the coaches, finding out what they wanted out of me, what my role would be, Tennessee was the best opportunity.”

Decker added that he spoke to five or six teams, and had others visits scheduled for this week but it became clear that Tennessee was right for him.

“Mulling over some of my options, I just felt like this was the right fit,’’ Decker said. “Just looking at the roster, and the progress they’ve made over the last few years, and meeting with Jon (Robinson) and Mike (Mularkey), I have a lot of respect for where they came from, their philosophy, how they do things, and that’s something I want to be a part of.

“And I am excited about Marcus Mariota and the young talent he is.”
