AFC Notes: Chiefs, Dolphins, Jaguars, Jets

Chiefs

Chiefs HC Andy Reid stressed Monday the starting job belongs to Alex Smith, despite rookie Patrick Mahomes‘ development.

“That’s how we’re doing it,” Reid said, per Adam Teicher. “The next question is you come back and say, ‘What if Alex gets hurt?’ I would never say (Mahomes) can’t do something but I would tell you in this case it’s Alex’s job. There’s no gray area with that.

Dolphins

  • According to Dolphins HC Adam Gase, there’s a “good chance” that veteran G Kraig Urbik could miss the season opener. Gase added that it’s possible Urbik could require a knee scope. (Joe Schad)
  • The issue for Miami is that they’ve already lost G Ted Larsen for a portion of the season (NFLTR), so this would really stress their guard depth if Urbik misses some time.

Jaguars

Jets

The NFL announced Monday that they’ve cleared Jets LB Darron Lee and DL Leonard Williams regarding the incident from June that took place at a concert.

Here’s the statement from the NFL:

Following a review, we concluded there was insufficient evidence to support a finding that there was a violation of the personal conduct policy.”
