AFC Notes: Chiefs, Jets, Steelers

Chiefs

Chiefs CB Terrance Mitchell says he’s thankful for the opportunity Kansas City gave him last year to show what he could do after bouncing around with a number of teams to begin his NFL career.

The more reps and the more experience you can get, it definitely makes you more and more confident,” Mitchell said, via Chiefs.com. “Just being out there gives me more confidence. I thank the coaches for just giving me the opportunity.

“With all the places I’ve been in my career, going up against all the different kinds of receivers I’ve faced, I always knew I could play; I just had to wait for my opportunity.”

Jets

  • While Robby Anderson is set to enter training camp as the Jets’ No. 2 receiver, Brian Costello writes that he could lose the job as suddenly as he got it.
  • Anderson was arrested a few months ago for resisting a police officer with violence and could receive a suspension from the NFL.
  • Costello adds that Anderson needs to become more of a complete receiver for the Jets and a better route runner.

Steelers

Cardinals RB David Johnson is hoping that Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell is able to get a comparable deal to the kind of money team’s pay to cornerbacks and quarterbacks.

“I hope he gets the deal he deserves,” Johnson told Andy Benoit of TheMMQB.com. “I hope it’s going to be the type of deal that cornerbacks get and quarterbacks get.

Johnson added that he believes the young running backs will help to change the perception regarding the value of the position with their next deals.

“I feel like, especially now, with the running backs we have in this league, we’re going to definitely change the mentality of the running back and those contract deals,” Johnson said. “We’re going to definitely make it [understood] that running backs are more important than you’d think. Everyone thinks it’s a passing league, but I think running backs are starting to show up and show out and prove that you need a good one to be a capable team.”
