AFC Notes: Jets, Patriots, Raiders

Jets

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News believes Iowa State HC Matt Campbell would instill “energy and belief” into the Jets organization if the team hired him as their next head coach.

Mehta spoke with multiple NFL general managers, who praised Campbell’s ability to create a winning program.

Look at what he’s done everywhere,” said one GM. “He’s gone in and built a winning culture, a winning program, and above all, a winning roster. He runs a well-coordinated operation, provides good leadership and communicates his expectations well. He’s also able to build relationships.”

Another general manager said Campbell is a coach who “gets it” and complimented him for a number of qualities.

His detail, his organization, his honesty, his understanding and ability to explain a player’s off-the-field habits and on-field preparation have impressed the heck out of me,” said the GM. “This guy gets it.”

Patriots

  • Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk points out that Patriot QB Tom Brady will likely earn none of the $5 million in incentives included in his contract this season.
  • Brady stands to make $1 million incentives bonuses if he’s top 5 in passing yards, touchdowns, passer rating, completion percentage and yards-per-attempt.
