AFC Notes: Teddy Bridgewater, Bills, Raiders

Teddy Bridgewater

Dr. Dan Cooper, who performed Teddy Bridgewater’s knee surgery back in 2016, says that this procedure was “the worst knee dislocation in sports [he’s] ever seen.”

It’s certainly the worst knee dislocation in sports I’ve ever seen without having a nerve or vessel injury,” Cooper told ESPN.com. “It’s an injury that about 20-25 percent of NFL players are able to come back from. . . . It’s a horrific injury. You’ve torn every single thing in your knee and it’s hanging on by one ligament on one side like a hinge.

And then everything on the lateral side of his knee was reconstructed, about five ligaments over there,” Cooper said. “We repaired them, then took one of his own hamstring tendons and transplanted it to the lateral side of his knee.

Bills

Bills’ first-round QB Josh Allen said he corrected his footwork issues this offseason and is already improving.

I had a problem with a long front step and that was causing my elbow to drop, and it was throwing off the entire sequence within the hip and the shoulder and the arm coming through,” Allen said, via Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News. “So when I keep that steady and I can take a small front stride and get (the left foot) down, my lead step, as fast as possible, the ball comes out quicker, it comes out cleaner, my throwing motion is less violent and that equals more accurate balls.

  • Regarding RB LeSean McCoy (groin), McDermott said: “There’s always a concern … LeSean’s a big part of what we do. I know he’s going to maximize those treatment opportunities, and he’s a pro.” (Tom Pelissero)
