AFC Rumors: Broncos, Browns, Ravens, Steelers

Broncos

  • Nick Jhabvala reports that Zach Azzanni will be named the Broncos new WRs coach.

Browns

The Browns officially announced Wednesday that they’ve officially hired Eliot Wolf assistant GM and Alonzo Highsmith VP of player personnel.

We’re lucky to add Alonzo and Eliot to our personnel staff,” said GM John Dorsey. “Alonzo’s 25 years of experience in the National Football League as a player, scout and personnel executive give him a unique perspective when it comes to evaluating talent and building a team. Alonzo and I share the same passion for this great game of football. We are going to set out to find talented football players that possess that same passion for the game. Eliot has been a fine executive in this league for some time now. It’s been great to watch him grow up around this league when I was with him in Green Bay and from afar for the last five-plus years. He’s been a big reason for the consistent success the Packers have experienced over the last decade. Adding Eliot and Alonzo to our personnel leadership group, that already includes Andrew Berry, will strengthen us and help us develop into the type of personnel department we need to achieve the success our great fans deserve.

  • The Browns also added Jimmy Noel as assistant director of pro scouting, Matt Donahoe as a scout and Dan Zegers as a personnel coordinator.
  • According to Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns have parted ways with executive Ryan Grigson.
  • Tony Grossi reports that Browns chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta and VP of player personnel Andrew Berry are staying in their present roles, despite the recent additions to the team’s front office.
  • Browns HC Hue Jackson is interviewing Texans QBs coach Sean Ryan on Wednesday for their offensive coordinator job. (Mary Kay Cabot)

Ravens

  • Jason La Canfora wonders if John Harbaugh could be nearing his last stand as the Ravens’ head coach.
  • La Canfora says that Harbaugh’s decision to retain OC Marty Mornhinweg and promote Don Martindale to defensive coordinator could be setting up a lame-duck situation.
  • If it were up to La Canfora, he would sign Harbaugh to a long-term extension or consider shaking up the front office in an attempt to get the team to take the next step.
  • La Canfora is critical of the Ravens’ front office for their recent draft results, free agent additions and their poor cap situation.

Steelers

After hinting at possibly retiring last year, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said Wednesday that he doesn’t think Sunday’s game against the Jaguars will be his final game at Heinz Field.

“I don’t think it is my last, but I’m not thinking about that right now,” Roethlisberger said, via ESPN.com. “I’m going to go out and play this one and give everything I have.”

Even so, Roethlisberger added that he still treats every game like it could be his last simply because you never know what can happen.

“You have to treat every game like it could be your last because you never know when it is,” Roethlisberger said. “We saw an example obviously earlier this season with [injured linebacker] Ryan [Shazier]. You never know when it could be your last. I’m hoping it’s not his last, but you have to go out and play every play and enjoy every play and every game like it could be your last.
