AFC Rumors: Browns, Colts, Patriots, Raiders

Browns

  • According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, word circulated at the Senior Bowl last month that new Browns consultant Scot McCloughan had been talking up Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield to GM John Dorsey.
  • Cabot says there’s “no question” Dorsey likes Mayfield, but it remains to be seen whether he would use either of the team’s two first-round picks to get him.
  • Even so, Cabot expects Mayfield to at least be in the discussion for Cleveland once the draft draws closer.

Colts

  • Albert Breer reports that new Colts HC Josh McDaniels has agreements in place with assistants Matt Eberflus (defensive coordinator), Dave DeGuglielmo (OL coach) and Mike Phair (DL coach).
  • Adam Schefter reports that Patriots assistant QB coach Jerry Schuplinski is expected to join with the Colts.

Patriots

  • According to Adam Schefter, Patriots WR coach Chad O’Shea is in play to become the team’s new offensive coordinator.
  • According to Mike Florio, WRs coach Chad O’Shea has emerged as the favorite to replace Josh McDaniels as Patriots’ offensive coordinator.

While some recent reports have said that the Patriots could hire Ohio State DC Greg Schiano as their new defensive coordinator, Florio says that it’s been presumed LBs coach Brian Flores will be elevated to the position.

  • FootballScoop reports that Minnesota DC Robb Smith will join the Patriots’ coaching staff.
