AFC South Notes: Colts, Jaguars, Texans

Colts

Colts QB Andrew Luck said his goal for training camp is to throw like he is preparing for a game.

My goal is to be able to throw as much as I need to, like on a game week,” Luck said, via Kevin Bowen of 1070 The Fan. “A Wednesday, Thursday, Friday at practice and then Sunday, let it loose, no (pitch) count, nothing. You’ve got to go and let it go.”

Jaguars

Jaguars LB Myles Jack will replace retired Paul Posluszny as the Mike linebacker this season, but the team limited his on-field work this offseason to make sure he’ll be ready to go for training camp.

“Obviously, since I wasn’t out there, I got a lot of mental reps and everything,” Jack said, via SiriusXM NFL Radio. “But just moving forward my main goal is just mentally understanding the game and understanding how offenses attack our defense, and just looking at other defenses across the league and how other teams attack them. Just really trying to get a mental aspect of the game where I could maybe have one ahead of the offense. Obviously, I couldn’t do anything physically, but work out and kind of monitor drills but other than that, really just focus on becoming a better Mike linebacker and just knowing how to quarterback the defense.”

Texans

According to Texans coach Bill O’Brien, second-year OT Julie’n Davenport has “made a lot of progress” since entering the league.

“He’s (Davenport) really made a lot of progress,” O’Brien said, via HoustonTexans.com. “He played at the end of the year and he held his own against some pretty good defensive ends. That was a good beginning for him, and I think he’s built on that. He really did a good job in the time that he was away from here working out because when he came back here, you could tell he was in shape and ready to go. I think he’s had a good spring. He just needs to try to keep getting better every day.”
