AFC South Notes: Colts, Jaguars, Titans

Colts

Colts HC Frank Reich mentioned this past week that they plan to chart out a progression for QB Andrew Luck, as he works his way back from the shoulder injury that cost him the entire 2017 season.

There will be a progression and I think that progression is charted out,” Reich said, via Stephen Holder of the Indy Star. “You go from where you’re throwing pretty stationary, not a lot of movement, then some of your movement throws, then you’re spotting receivers up and throwing to spots, and then after that is throwing competitive throws to receivers who are running full speed. He certainly would need to get that in before we return.

If Luck is able to continue to make progress in the next month or so and is able to throw a football without pain, he should be able to practice in full for the start of training camp.

That’s in Andrew’s court,” Reich said. “And that’s really par for the course for quarterbacks across the league: they call their guys up. And that’s what you love about (being) the coach. When you have that kind of leadership, we don’t have to organize that for them. We have leaders on the team. He knows what he has to do to get ready.

Jaguars

Jaguars new TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins is clearly expecting to have a big first year in Jacksonville.

This will be my best year receiving, this will be my best year blocking and I’ve got to give a lot of credit to the coaches that I’ve been with throughout my years [in the NFL],” Seferian-Jenkins said, via Mike Kaye of First Coast News.

“There’s no doubt in my mind I can be the best run-blocking, pass-catching tight end in the league. I’m not worried about it. I’ve got a good opportunity to come in here and do what I can to help this team win as many games as possible and everyone else will decide how the blocking is, but I’m going to block as hard as I can for my teammates.”

Titans

New Titans RB Dion Lewis says he believes he and Derrick Henry can be the best running back tandem in the NFL.

“We both know we’re two good backs. We’re pushing each other every day. We feel like we can be two of the best running backs in the league,” said Lewis, via ESPN.com. “We feel like we can be the best duo in the league.”

Titans HC Mike Vrabel made it clear that they split carries this year, as opposed to having a true featured back.

“They’ll work together fine. I think they both have shown they don’t have to be the guy to get 30 carries,” Vrabel said. “Those 30-carry-a-game guys, I don’t think they exist anymore.”
