AFC West Notes: Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs

Broncos

According to Broncos DC Joe Woods, undrafted rookie OLB Jeff Holland has been “blowing people away” with his play this offseason.

We record all of the positive (plays) that guys make and right now, he’s blowing people away,” Woods said, via the Denver Post. “We just need to see what he does in training camp and in the preseason.

Holland says that the Broncos have primarily been using him as a pass rusher in offseason workouts.

“Basically rushing the passer,” Holland said. “I think I’m a pretty good pass rusher so going to the next level, I’ll work on the small things like hand placement and different moves that I can use. I think it can be a pretty good deal.”

Chargers

Chargers first-round S Derwin James has already impressed DBs coach Ron Milus and DC Gus Bradley in offseason workouts.

“Obviously he has the physical traits — his size and speed,” Milus said of James. “But I think the biggest thing that really sold me is that this is a man’s man. He’s a professional and you can sense that when you talk to him.”

“You’re starting to see him more and more [assert himself],” Bradley said. “… [Now] you’ll hear him talk like ‘Hey, it’s third down and this is what we need to do.’ So you’re starting to see him and hear him a little more as time goes on. I think as he gets a better feel for things those qualities will show even more.”

Chiefs

  • Matt Miller says he could see the Chiefs being aggressive when it comes to taking Western Michigan CB Sam Beal in this year’s Supplemental draft.
  • Miller points out that a team a team will probably have to use a second-round to ensure that they get Beal.
  • All 32 teams were on hand for Beal’s Pro Day this past week. (NFLTR)
