AFC West Notes: Broncos, Chargers, Raiders

Broncos

A report surfaced during the first round that the Broncos actually had a trade agreement in place with the Bills for the No. 5 pick that was contingent on who was available to Denver by the time they were on the clock.

Broncos executive VP John Elway elected to stay at No. 5 and take the consensus No. 1 pass rusher in the draft in Bradley Chubb.

“We just felt that where we were and with Bradley staring at us, we couldn’t pass him up,” Elway said, via Pro Football Talk. “As I said, he can rush the pass as well as what he can do defensively. He’s a great fit, he’s a hard-worker and he plays 120 percent all the time. He’s a great addition to the Broncos.”

Chargers

  • Jason La Canfora reports that the Chargers really like Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph, who could be an early trade target in Round two. However, La Canfora isn’t sure Rudolph will still be available by the time the Chargers are on the clock in round two.

Raiders

The Raiders pulled off a surprising draft trade for Steelers WR Martavis Bryant last night.

Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie told reporters that they feel good about giving Bryant this opportunity.

“When we talk about character, we’re not going to condemn them,” McKenzie said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “We’re not going to nail them for life, so to speak, if we see some semblance of — whether it’s remorse or whether it’s getting on the right path — when we talk to the guy. We talked to Worley, we feel good about bringing him in. And we feel good about giving Martavis an opportunity. And we think with our resources, we can help him.”
