AFC West Notes: Broncos, Chargers, Raiders

Broncos

Broncos executive VP John Elway admitted that he missed on the hiring of Vance Joseph as the team’s head coach.

“I talked to [Vance Joseph] before the process a couple of years ago [when hiring Gary Kubiak], and knew him, and going in, I had an idea that he was kind of our guy,” Elway told Peter King of Football Morning in America. “I admit it. I was wrong on that one. I don’t like to say it out loud because I don’t want to offend VJ, who is a good football coach. But things didn’t work out.

  • Ian Rapoport reports that the Broncos have hired Bears assistant Brandon Staley as their OLBs coach.

Chargers

Chargers TE Hunter Henry says he’s feeling good after he returned to game action for the first time since he suffered an ACL tear during the summer.

“It was definitely just good to be able to get back out there,” Henry said, via Chargers.com. “I think that’s huge for going into next year. It’s huge. . . .I worked hard to get back to that moment and so, I’m ready to work extra hard this offseason to get ready to go for next year.

“I felt good,” Henry added. “I felt really good actually. I mean, I wasn’t my full self probably, to where I would like to be, but I still felt good enough and felt real good out there. It was good to be back out there rolling.”

Raiders

The Bay Area News Group reported Monday night that the Raiders are willing to sit down with the city of Oakland to discuss playing games at the Oakland Coliseum in 2019.

“Yes, there still is a possibility that an agreement can be reached, (I’m) not sure what the odds are, but still possible,” said Scott McKibben, executive director of the Coliseum Authority.

However, Raiders owner Mark Davis tells Paul Gutierrez that this report is “absolutely false.”
